Study on Tactile Perception of Surface Haptic Displays

Howdy! We are looking for participants in a study led by Dr. Rebecca Friesen in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Our study will be held in the Health Technology Building (600 Discovery Drive) or in JCain room 410 (180 Spence St, College Station, TX 77840).

We are conducting a research study on the human perception of tactile information and are looking for participants to take part in the study.

In this experiment, you will touch either real surfaces (such as a piece of glass or cardboard), or artificial surfaces rendered on a haptic display (such as a touchscreen that creates the sensation of touching cardboard).

We will observe your touching force and motion, and ask you to identify and rate perceptual qualities of the surface.

The experiment has been approved under IRB STUDY2024-0539 on 06/04/2024. You are eligible for this study if you are above 18 years old, have healthy hands and healthy fingertip skin. The study session lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Your participation will be rewarded with a gift card of $15 per hour of participation, and your data will be confidential and protected. If you are interested, and you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Friesen at: rfriesen@tamu.edu
